Project Descriptions
159 through 171
2007 - 2008 |
As of June, 2007, when this URL was first posted there are 11 active 2007 projects (159 - 169) in development. In addition, an equal number of projects from the 2005 - 2006 period are also still active with a number of them likely to remain so for a number of years. This work, as a body, is satisfyingly varied in many dimensions of practice [link: practice]: geography, type of building(s), kinds of setting and landscape, project size and scope, services rendered, size and kind of clients and their organizations, degree of challenge to our existing capabilities, economic consequences, ValueWeb participation, project duration, and strategic fit to the mission [link: mission] of MG Taylor. This is, of course, congruent with the goals of TSM Architecture as it is the only way to develop the knowledge, capacity and kind of practice we seek. |
It is certain that over the 6 months remaining in this year and the 12 of 2008 a fair number of projects will be added making these the busiest years, in our history, by far - a practice is being born [future link]. It is not our desire to build a huge practice. It is our intent to be able to practice across the entire range of wok which we consider to be architectural in nature [link: basic architectural practice course notes - scope] from single dwellings to, ultimately, planetary and space architecture. |
There are three aspects of this period which may make this work significant: First, beyond manufacturing components and furniture we will be involved with building and field project management than we have in three decades; second, we will be recreating the entire drawing and documentation process of Design/Build/Use practices; third, our design capability, because of these technical improvements and a greater range of opportunities, will flower and begin to achieve the art of architecture we have sought for so long. This will not come easy as we are learning on Work #159 the Leopard Studio Addition. It will take a tight integration of these elements plus the ability to exercise good judgment in regards just how far we push each project. Setting the right level-of-ambition is critical for our success. The downside slopes on both sides - too conservative or too radical - are equally dangerous. |
The next 18 months will be ones of execution, execution, execution and if we can sustain it there is the possibility of being in an entirely new place by 2009-10. Work like #159, the Stan Leopard Studio Addition, in many ways, illustrates the critical step in this process. Projects such as this bring the capability I developed in the 60s to the AI work of the last 15 years to the opportunities we have in first decade of this century. These projects can smooth the path to the projects which are ahead. |

The sum of this work will be my topic at this ending explanation of our 2007 and 2008 work. I will leave this to later after the work it further developed and the year more behind us rather than ahead. |
