how to conceive and realize a new armature for creative work

Most of the basis of the Taylor Method rests on the foundation of empirical observation and testing in the living labs of numerous navCenters designed built and operated by myself, Gail Taylor, the MG Taylor Principals and ValueWeb KnowledgeWorkers over a 30 year period. Prior to starting MG Taylor I had 24 years experience in the designing and building of architecture and Gail in education. Many people who worked with us over the years brought experience from numerous fields. Some of these contributions will be noted below. Today, there are two generations of architects, designers, facilitators, knowledgeWorkers, social and business entrepreneurs carrying on this work. The users of the system have made significant contributions and have been part of applying the work to a broad range of conditions and challenges in a mix of many cultures and numerous nations. The fruits of these thousands of applications form the basis of this documentation. This work remains the experience of several hundred thousand yet the reporting of it the viewpoint of a handful. It is the result of a self-funded enterprise which has not received any institutional support nor significant capital investment. This has left us free and beholding to no one. Thirty years of earnings have been reinvested in our development. A proper scientific analysis and academic evaluation remains the work of the future.

In addition to this hands on work, this Method has been informed by the prior work of many, some well known and some not, from our era and from long ago. There are, of course, influences so ubiquitous that they cannot be traced. Besides direct apprenticeship, one-on-one dialogs, lectures and classes attended, over 63 years of relentless reading in subjects spanning the scope of the Human Enterprise, always in books and recently the Internet, has been my daily habit and remains so. The task has been to connect what I was seeing in front of me with what was being reported and dreamed by a globe full of very smart and creative people. As a designer my approach remains pragmatic. I collect, develop information and theories, and apply them in the navCenter laboratory. What works is built upon. What does not is reevaluated, modified and sometimes put aside but never forgotten. This has been and remains a rapid prototyping process applied in the real world of real people struggling with real problems with consequences, many of an extreme critical nature where failure is costly to treasure and life. In this documentation, I speak carefully yet in the declarative voice. Words not only report they provoke. We are at a time when action is required. We have to act and keep on learning on the job. This is the nature and use of knowledge.
