Project
Phase I Debrief
|
|
With
the exception of the Cambridge knOwhere Store (now
a CGEY ASE), the VCBH Innovation Center involved
the fastest design-to-use cycle we have ever accomplished.
In addition, this project required the highest introduction
of new product design,including lighting
innovations, of any prior AI work .
|
|
This
was largely accomplished without any major stress
to the design/build system. It did require some
long hours on the part of the shop over about a
90 day period. The typical time between the concept
development of a new piece and the instillation
of it was 10 to 20 days. This provided a very fast
feedback loop between idea and the doing of it.
The advances in refinement that several pieces underwent
as a result are fairly large leaps. Because the
project involved a broad range of our WorkFurniture,
is was possible for improvements in one piece to
quickly become refinements in several other pieces.
A greater integration of the overall system took
place than would have been possible possible under
other circumstances.
|
| The
big item with this project, of course, was the creation
of a new Armature. This established an entirely new
context in which the rest of the AI products now fit.
Issues of scale were dealt with (the jump
between the WorkFurniture and the the building box
scale), as well as, a more flexible delivery of wiring
and lighting assets. The WorkFurniture and the Armature
together create - for the first time - flexible architectural-scale
furniture. An accomplishment that, for us, was 12
years in the making from idea to full demonstration. |
