Keeping KnOwhere Environments

Maintenance • Upgrades • Stewardship & Evolution •
• End State Design •

The purpose of this page is three fold. To document our use and development of the KnOwhere spaces. To capture our future plans and ambitions. The Hilton Head Store is about 40% finished; the Palo Alto Store about half done. The third is to provide project management information on the many ongoing projects that constitute our present upgrade path.

Both Stores are enjoying heavier use and the general, financial improvement of the Enterprise means that it is now possible - and necessary - to move closer to our “end state” model.

...Hilton Head Store:

We have rented additional space at Hilton Head and opened that space to our original facility. At the present time, this addional space is underutilized because it is chopped up in a conventional mannor.

Over the last 18 months we have lacked the funds to redo the space. If we are to make Hilton Head vialbe, we have to expand its capibility. KnO hh 200 is necessary work to sort out the options, costs and timing aspects necessary to moving forward.

We have an adequate set for Building department plan check and contractor pricing.

We understand the different options that we may have so that we can move forward, incrementally, as money is available. This step by step path has to be possible without too much disruption and money waste.

Status There is a partially finished set of drawings that Jerry Headly did in 1988.

There are a number of short and mid-term projects that have to be executed at the Hilton Head Store. They will be listed ASAP. e-mail me if you have any in mind.

...Palo Alto Store

The Palo Alto Sore has a near infinite number of projects that need doing. The most critical relate to getting the Second Floor level up to full capability. When the Store opened, two years ago, there was was not sufficient capital to do this. Because of this we have had minimal use and only modest success with this aspect of our program.

Now however, market demand and our growing financial health is converging to make a new opportunity. We are attracting a great mix of ValueWeb members and incubation programs. Proper use of our Second Floor resource can pay a big chunk of our Overhead, in the short term, and provide significant Capital Growth (through the Incubation work) over a two to three year period.

Wall components are in our storage unit. None of us have installed this wall before. We will need help with the physical work part of it, as well as, some of the technical aspects. Money for installation labor, painting and some materials is required.

This is critical. Time is extremely short. This is a complex little project and should not be underestimated.

I want to make sure that this space really works. I am not sure it does.

I want to make sure that the furniture is being used to its best strength and is specifically set up to support the work that is actually being done.

Plants, books for the shelves, artifacts - make this photo-ready.

We have completed the basic layout - we need to refine it and finish it.

This is prime space. It is the only enclosed private room in the facility. We should use it well and lever the asset better that we have.

  Status

Now being used as ad-hoc Conference Room with wires running in through the door. Not good!

Capital will be required to complete this project - $5,000 +/-

These projects, (knO pa 200 - 206) will bring the Second Floor up to a useful, credible and profitable level for the first time.
